Coherent spatial development - a common understanding of action
To ensure that urban, rural and mountain regions make progress together, the federal government promotes harmonised spatial development. The Swiss Spatial Concept serves as a guiding framework. It is based on the concept of coherent spatial development, which aims to coordinate the spatial development of mountain regions, rural areas and agglomerations in terms of content and across regions. Coherent spatial development helps to utilise synergies in spatial development and to resolve and avoid potential conflicts. The various spatially effective federal sectoral policies and corresponding policies and activities at cantonal, regional and communal level play an important role in the implementation of coherent spatial development. The agglomeration policy and the policy for rural and mountain areas also make important contributions as cross-sectional policies.
